Fetal and Maternal Emergency Medicine
Equipping emergency care teams for maternal and fetal emergencies worldwide
A central clinical development priority
The program places fetal and maternal emergency readiness within the core emergency medicine agenda. Its purpose is to strengthen recognition, coordinated response, education and access to appropriate equipment through collaboration with obstetrics, maternal fetal medicine, nursing, EMS and related disciplines.
Program responsibilities
- Support research into recognition of fetal compromise, including fetal hypoxemia
- Strengthen emergency department assessment and escalation readiness
- Expand undergraduate, residency and continuing professional education
- Evaluate equipment availability, monitoring pathways and transfer arrangements
- Develop institutional partnerships, simulation and implementation measures
Clinical innovation through collaboration
Emergency medicine contributes knowledge from the first point of acute care. The program encourages collaborative research across specialties, including lessons from evolving cardiac diagnostic research, while testing new approaches against reliable clinical evidence.
Institutional adoption
The implementation agenda connects education with equipment, clinical governance, specialist consultation and receiving arrangements. A stronger field requires training, research and reliable delivery together.
